Advances in technology are helping to transform the process of many business functions, including Human Resources. Some would argue that HR is the backbone of any company, yet it could use a serious revamp. With the increased use in social media and automation, the recruiting process has completely shifted from where it was even five years ago. Overall, technology has improved the approach of gathering candidates, enhanced the method in which data is broken down for the hiring managers, and streamlined the way employee performance is measured.

Smarter Onboarding
The introduction of Artificial Intelligence has completely revamped the new employee onboarding process. This was formerly known as a very tedious and overwhelming procedure. AI has now enabled HR professionals to restructure their process, allowing all new hire, benefits and payroll documents to be organized in one place, ultimately simplifying the experience for the employee. Transitioning paper records to digital is an enhancement that provides HR specialists with time to dedicate to relationship building while identifying areas that motivate teams and define strong culture.

Digital Interviews
So long are the days of multiple in person interviews. HR professionals now have the option through software to narrow down their candidate pool and invite their selections to be a part of the digital interview. These conversations are conducted over the device of the applicant’s choosing to record their answers. This saves both time and money for the employer, and allows them to delegate resources accordingly.

Streamlined Compliance
Remaining compliant is a large struggle for companies, specifically the Human Resources team. With laws and regulations ever changing, it is difficult to organize the paperwork and streamline the information to all employees. The advances in technology have introduced systems to ensure companies stay compliant. Cloud-based solutions now house all paperwork, vastly freeing up IT resources and storage. Even better? All trainings to ensure compliancy can now be conducted virtually, alleviating the need for company-wide in-person meetings.

Analyzing Performance
HR teams are focused on the employee from hiring to promoting, so methods of accurately measuring performance are key. Employee reviews and collection of feedback is now completely automated to simplify this process while providing the opportunity to hone in on important data.

While technology advancements are undoubtedly restructuring process, they are simultaneously creating a more strategic role for HR teams. These professionals are no longer seen as admin workers — they now hold the reins to identifying ways to make strategic impacts on organizations. This shift in responsibility is hoped to make companies stronger and more relatable to employees while increasing retention and overall culture.
